Department of Endocrinology

Endocrinology is the subspecialty of internal medicine which deals with diagnosis and treatment of diseases related to hormones. Endocrinology focuses on endocrine glands and tissues that secrete them.

Endocrinologists must become board certified in Internal Medicine by completing seven or more years of medical school and postgraduate training.  Then, for an additional two to three years, they study conditions specific to the endocrine system -- tissues and major endocrine glands, including the pituitary, thyroid, parathyroids, thymus, adrenals, pancreas, ovaries and testes.  Endocrinologists provide treatment for disorders including diabetes, thyroid disorders, glandular cancers, osteoporosis and parathyroid disease.
