CT Patient Prep Instructions

  • With CT, everyone who is receiving contrast is required to be NPO (nothing by mouth) at least 6 hrs before exam.
  • CT Stone Study’s, Abd/Pelvis w/o, and Chest w/o also need to be NPO.
  •  Any patient who is 60 and over or diabetic, no matter what the age, is required to have a creatinine lab exam prior to exam.  This lab value can be up to a month old.
  • If the patient is on the following diabetic medications: Glucophage, Metformin, Glucovance, Metaglip, Fortamet, Avandmet, Actoplusmet, or Riomet, he or she is required to stay off these medications 48 hrs after the exam and come back for a repeat creatinine before they can go back on these medications.
  • Some patients may have to drink oral contrast as well so your physician can look at your digestive system.
